July 2010
Summer Fete & Dog Show - an idyllic quintessential English country fete took place at the Mynde, Much Dewchurch thanks to the generosity of Audley and Caroline Twiston-Davies - the sun shone, stall holders set up their pitches, musicians and dancers performed, dogs were judged (and some owners !!), books were bought and everyone had a wonderful time. Look at the pictures.
April 2010
Pub Quiz - expertly arranged by Fiona Witcher - unfortunately not so well supported but all those who attended certainly had a great night and most expanded their musical knowledge somewhat
Easter 2010
Easter Walk - our traditional Easter Walk this year was along the River Usk from Clytha to the pretty village of Bettws Newydd. The beautiful 15th Century church of St Aeddan was also explored before settling down to a well deserved drink and meal at the Black Bear Inn. The walk was organised most proficiently by Ray & Sheila Sheppard - many thanks.

Open Gardens - Glorious weather dawned on Sunday 14 June and 9 gardeners were busy ensuring their gardens were up to scrutiny - a fact confirmed by the many visitors who toured the gardens through the afternoon - including taking tea at Home Farm and the Old Vicarage. Well done to all who opened their gardens - raising valuable funds for the Society.
13 April 2009
Race Night at the Black Swan - many members and regulars from the Black Swan took part in a race night - with 9 races generating much interest and enjoyment - both for punters and "owners" alike - a sum in excess of £600 was raised and this was donated to a local family to assist in the purchase of an electric wheelchair.

Easter Walk - A day of excellent weather saw a good turn out of members and a number of dogs for the annual Easter walk - this year we walked from the church across to Home Farm, through the woods to the Mynde, across to Black House Farm, and ten almost to Kilpeck. We then turned towards Saddlebow hill, a number if members climbed to the top of Coles Tump, and then we all returned to the village by way of the Mynde, and then down the Mynde drive (by kind permission of Audley and Caroline Twiston-Davies). An excellent day out - look out for the next one later in the year.
13 November 2008
Annual General Meeting - A good turn out of members attended the AGM to hear Bella Brown give a full account of the past 12 months - the Fund Raising events, the successful defence of the appeal by the Hereford Waldorf School and their large planning application. Neal Bright gave a full account of the financial details of the last 12 months and presented the accounts which were accepted. Should members wish to receive a copy of Bella's report and the Annual Accounts - please contact the secretary - Contacts

Aconbury Walk - Once again some members took a stroll around the edge of our Parish - this time up and around Aconbury Woods - and the dogs seemed to have enjoyed the warm and sunny weather. Excellent planning by Colin and Linda Aston as the weather the weekend before and after was dismal.

Duchy of Cornwall Talk - On Tuesday 24th June we sat enthralled in Much Dewchurch Village Hall listening to David Curtis, Land Agent from the Duchy of Cornwall Estate talking about what the Duchy means both across England and Scotland but primarily in Herefordshire since the purchase of the Guys Estate land a few years ago. Hopefully, this will be the first of many interesting talks to members.

Village Tidy - The annual village tidy up took place this evening to continue a tradition started by the late Philip Turpin. All the hedgerows and verges from Wormelow, through the village to the Mynde entrance were scoured and assorted rubbish collected and placed into black bags. It was apparent that the volume of rubbish was lower than seen in previous years and the hope was expressed that perhaps motorists were becoming more considerate of the countryside. Many thanks to all the members who took part. See you all again next year.

6 members of the Society spent a fruitful day planting the "Saxon" style hedge around the southern and western boundaries of the churchyard. This was in line with the agreement of members at the inaugural meeting of the Society. We planted something like 325 Crategeous Monngyna (Quickthorn), 75 Eunymus europaea (Spindle berry) 75 Prunus spinosa ( Black thorn) 50 Cornus sanguinea (Dogwood) and 50 Acer campestre (Field Maple). There are still some plants left .. Holly , Lonicera Dog roses, Buck thorn and crab apple but they shouldn't take too long to put in.
The hedgerow will reinforce and eventually replace the decaying picket fence, providing a more attractive boundary that will also act as a thoroughfare for wildlife and encourage nesting birds. Many thanks to Robert Dale for coordinating this very successful day.

A successful first AGM was held tonight - the following were elected as officers for the coming 12 months:
Chairman Caroline Brown
Vice Chairman Anne Dale
Secretary Christopher Powell
Treasurer Neal Bright
A good turnout of members heard about proceedings since the Society was founded in July, (the membership now standing at 147 members), with particular reference to the planning appeal relation to them establishment of a State Academy school in Much Dewchurch and this was followed with a social time spent looking at old photographs, books and other mementos of times past in Much Dewchurch.
Neal Bright made a number of suggestions about future projects for the Society - to follow up on this please go to the Projects area of this website.

We are planning a Christmas Walk around the parish just after Christmas - date will be Friday 28 December starting at 10.30 am, at the Lych Gate. A 2 1/2 - 3 hour walk with shorter options if desired. A great opportunity to blow away some of the cobwebs after Christmas and get to see some of the finer points of the parish.
